As part of the NPR Chamber’s mission to support our business members, employers within our networks and their employees, and individuals within our communities, we frequently discuss and advocate for beneficial policy solutions. In an effort to help control increasing healthcare costs and access across the board, we have issued the following statement:
“In light of a new report released by the PBM Accountability Project detailing the outsized role that pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs) play in influencing patient access and the cost of prescription drugs by consumers and supported by employers, we ask policymakers to consider meaningful industry standards and oversight, ensuring that greater industry transparency helps controls costs and improve transparency. Per the recently released report, PBMs engage in a variety of tactics that too often put profits ahead of our community members’ and businesses’ interests. In order to improve transparency and improve pricing, improved standards should be considered.”
